Gor Mahia Thrash Mahakama at City Stadium to Stay Execution

Straight from a 3-0 walloping by Chemelil Sugar at Chemelil Complex, Gor Mahia gave their fans a submission on their capabilities by drubbing Mahakama FC 3-1 at the City Stadium on Saturday, 3rd April, 2010. All were not rosy on the pitch from the beginning as Gor Mahia continued from where they left in the march against Chemelil, treating their vocal fans to a dull first half of football before Duncan Owiti claimed a brace in the second half with George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo also contributing a goal.

The Kenya Premier League match, played at Gor Mahia’s home ground of City Stadium, saw the return of Eric Opondo Omollo, the Mahakama FC coach, to the ground of the football club he once played for and coached. The Mahakama’s coach had admitted that the return would be an emotional affair to him even as he talked of relishing taking down K’Ogalo.

Duncan Owiti’s first goal came in the 47th minute when he nodded Gor Mahia’s first of the match and his third of the season from team mate, Makori’s cross. K’Ogalo’s ‘Blackberyy’ added the second and his first of the season through a brilliant goal that saw him get the ball about 54 yards from Mahakama’s goal and dribble his way through the Mahakama’s defence to burry the ball into the bottom right corner past the hapless goalkeeper – Benson Mungai.

Mahakama’s loan goal was scored in the 80th minute by Opondo but any hopes of a comeback were duly dashed by Owiti’s second goal of the match scored barely a minute later. Leaving Gor Mahia to stroll to a 3-1 victory and give breathing space to the technical bench and stay any possible fan eviction.
